First of all I think we can all agree that our "for profit" system we have now, must and will be replaced. Now, how about this?
1. All workers will pay in let's say 2% of our paychecks(automatically deducted) each week.
2. Our employers match this with another 2% .
3. The Federal government pays in another 2%
Total 6% each week that will go into a separate group health insurance fund. Separate from the federal budget; separate account all together.

I am switching to a career that does not have a group plan and need insurance for a possible pregnancy in the near future. I am having trouble finding any good priced insurance that has maternity available other than Blue Cross under an indivdual policy. With Blue Cross I am looking at $300 for a monthly premium…just for a maternity option. Then add a $200 premium for basic health insurance. HELP!!!

Has anyone here had insurance through Aetna/The Chickering Group? If so, did you have any reasonable claims denied?

Terry asked:

Group insurance is usually the best deal around for both insurers and insured. Employers typically pay a hefty share of the premium, usually around 70 to 85 percent, in exchange for a tax break. The subsidized premiums remain low enough that most employees sign up. That means group plans collect enough premiums from the majority of people who are relatively healthy to pay the medical expenses of the few who are not.

curious asked:

Can I add my wife to the group health insurance plan of my employer at any time?
I have a group insurance health plan by my employer but I have not added my wife to this plan because she was living in another country. She recently came to live with me in US and we just found that she is pregnant? I have heard that group insurance plans to not consider pregnancy as a pre-existing condition ? Can I add my wife to this plan at this stage (she has never had any insurance in US before because she hasnt really lived here)

Just moi! asked:

My company changed group insurance from one company to another with an effective date of 2-1-08. As of today, I still have not recieved a card or anything. Yesterday, the broker sent me over a page printed on insurance company letterhead with my member number and group number. When I try to use this info to login to to the website to print a temporary card, they have no record of me. When I call (I called 5 different customer service numbers) they have no record of me or my social security number. The broker is saying that there is nothing he can do because it has all been sent to them. The HR person at work can't do anything more than the broker and I can't get anyone at the insurance company to help because according to them, I don't exist. I am 28 weeks pregnant and have not had a doctors appointment in almost a month because I don't have any valid insurance card or even valid info for them. What to do at this point? I was up half the night worrying about it.
