NeedtoKnow asked:

What my company currently offers is too expensive and most doctors in my area (Massachusetts) are not in network so on top of the high cost, I have to pay 30% of everything. I am looking for other options such as being self insured, but don't know where to go to find info on this. Do groups such as AAA offer any type of insurance to it's members?

cynical bugger asked:

Alright, I'm being overly dramatic but what if, as head of household such an individual, without insurance, is treated to a very costly procedure and dies anyway? Why does it become necessary to bankrupt the remaining family as it often is? Why then, if Welfare is so frowned upon by the same opposition group to affordable health care (often referred as "Universal health care" by way of diversion)why is the mother, if she is unable to provide for her children often left homeless and left to wander the streets while they are given up for adoption? Why is this oft repeated scenario accepted by Christian voter or even wealthy atheists (ordinary ones, even) for whom there never may be enough money? This is a worst case scenario and actually happens in some cases. How does one address this issue? I've heard all of standard insults but I'd really appreciate an honest answer and I'm not at all in favor of universal health care for the indolent or the F–k 'em and forget 'em fathers everywhere or, for that matter, the largest group of Welfare recipients, save their unfortunate offspring.
Thanks #1- NO, I haven't decided yet, it will be difficult however so please answer this, even if you'd rather not read all of it.

MelA asked:

I have an individual policy with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. When I first obtained the policy (after a switch in employment), I was given a book showing all of the doctors covered under my policy. I was happy to see that my thearapist was one of them and continued my thearpy with her. After the first session I receieved a letter from BCBS stating that my coverage did not include mental health issues (since I had only an individual policy and not a group policy) so they would not cover my bills. After extensive complaints and appeals they admitted that they sent me the wrong book for my policy which had stated that this doctor was covered by them and I was basically out of luck and ended up having to pay the bill myself. Can an insurance company really deny you mental health coverage? Isn't this a form of discrimination? I can't even see the doctor for depression without them denying my claim. What is wrong with this picture?

What other goal would dropping the Employer Tax incentives and giving a tax break ONLY to people who buy their own Insurance have except breaking up group plans? Such an odd mix otherwise.

Mary 246 asked:

I am eligible for the subsidy based on my employment situation. I have always carried the health insurance and am in Cobra now. My spouse who has also been unemployed just got a temp job that offers group health insurance. Am I as the primary Cobra enrollee now considered "an individual eligible under another group plan"? The prices of the group plan are almost as high as my non-subsidized cobra rate and it's only a temp job that will be gone in a couple of months. I really don't want to sign up for that insurance. Can I get the subsidy since I don't have direct access to a group plan (only through my spouse)?

Emily asked:

Could there be an exception for having less than three employees? Also, is there any way to get a break on the premium? We own a roofing business and the workers comp premiums are EXTREMELY high. Any ideas on how to lower them even a little?
I understand that if we were somehow able to avoid purchasing the insurance that we would have to let our employees know, and perhaps be ready to offer them health insurance. I'm just curious to know if this is even possible.

Obama said Small Businesses were paying MORE for Health Care Coverage than Big Businesses. Doesn't that Violate Anti Trust Law which states: Equal Products, Equal Delivery Times, and had to be PRICED the SAME for ALL Customers. (?)

asherah05 asked:

I've had epilepsy since I was 5 years old, I'm now 24. I came across a comment on a website a few minutes ago about there being some kind of federal law where it's ILLEGAL to deny someone coverage because they may be in poor health, overweight, etc… aka having a "pre-existing condition". If this is true about there being a law AGAINST it, why are SO MANY health insurance companies allowed to deny people w/ pre-existing conditions right off the bat? There are THOUSAND upon thousands, if not MILLIONS, of people in the U.S that have some kind of pre-existing condition, whether minor or major. So wouldn't that mean that there are THOUSANDS of insurance companies that are running their business illegally & breaking the law? I mean, breaking a state law is one thing, but a FEDERAL law is a pretty big deal!!
Washington makes such a big deal about how so many people in our country don't have health insurance & they say it's "because people can't afford it". But I think the REAL reason is that because MOST of those people have a pre-existing condition & they're getting thrown to the curb because of it…
