My employer has been forgetting to take out premium costs for our group health plan since Jan. 1st this year. They realized this was happening when we recently changed to a new plan with higher premium costs. Now they want me to retroactively pay them for the premium costs of the old insurance plan we are no longer on. Can they legally do this?

For the portion, it only says Insurance #, I have HealthNet but I don't know whether to write the group number or the subscriber number.. I'm kind of sure it's the subscriber one, but I need some assurance. Also, it asks for Medi-Cal straight after that with Yes/No.. How do I know if it's medi-cal or not?

I am self employed and pay for my own health insurance. A friend of mine, who is 3 years older describes her health insurance and deductibles and pays about 1/3 what I pay and gets so much more from it.I don't know if the company matches or just deducts her premium. I have a high deductible and it just doesn't seem to cover much. My almost $500 per month versus her $158 per month seems out of line with what we both get. I bought mine through an agent.

ehanop asked:

I am self employed and pay for my own health insurance. I have a high deductible and it just doesn't seem to cover much. My almost $500 per month versus her $158 per month seems out of line with what we both get. I bought mine through an agent.

Why can't self employed people be grouped together by area, by agent to receive some kind of discounted group rate? This would give the insurance company an agent to work with that understands and can do the paperwork (whereas companies pay a dept of people for that, so it makes sense that companies get a break for doing part of the work in it), allow some kind of discount for people and maybe more people could afford and would get their own health insurance.
I didn't realize that it had been tried 20 years ago. At that time I was insured by a company policy.

I rarely get sick. I do my yearly exam things and have a cold about once a year and my premium has quadrupled anyway.

From the below explanation it almost sounds like those of us out on our own as freelancers and self employed are lumped into the sickly, uninsurable group. With changing business and economy and people losing jobs, this group is getting larger and larger and we're not all sickly.

Think about it asked:

AARP is the biggest lobby group for Doctors. They and insurance companies are the biggest funders and supporters of health reform. Is it a scam pretending it is good for us so we let them vote for what is in fact best for them? (I'd be more specific but since the bill is not being released to the public and we are blind to what is in it other than talking points I can't give details as to what is exactly good for them and how it will scrw us over). Thoughts?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, says Thursday she has the necessary votes to pass a health care bill. Washington (CNN) — The push to overhaul health care received a major boost Thursday as the American Medical Association and AARP endorsed …
I know Blue Shield for example is in favor of health insurance reform because then it allows them to remove certain coverages that is now required of them to provide with every plan they sell. In turn they will make those 'extras' they charge more for.
Last week a list of people who have visited the white house since Obama's office was released in the Washington Post. The person who had the most visits (over 20), her credentials in wikipedia lists her as the most powerful lobbyist for health care AND oil.(other guests included Denzel Washington, Sereena Williams, Oprah etc.)
ken, it's 1,990 pages in legal language, I'll read it when I get a law degree.

"Question — Are health insurance profits too high and should they be regulated?
Typical answer: Health insurance companies are “making record profits” declared President Obama at a July 22 press conference.

Reality: According to Money Magazine’s 2009 list of Fortune 500 Most Profitable Industries list, health insurance companies rank as the 35th most profitable industry group. Their profit margin? 2.2 percent. Also, the Pulitzer-winning PolitiFact.com from the St. Petersburg Times analyzed Obama’s statement and concluded that “we find his statement false.”
<end quote>

BQ2 — How much reform of "stripping away the 13 billion dollar insurance company profits?" — when according to this site — it makes up "0.6% of six-tenths of 1 percent of all health care spending?"

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/06/pushing-for-a-public-plan/

————————————————————-

BQ2 — Why can't we lobby for Health Reform, without having a "Villian" ????
.
.
Well, Yahoo wants me to use the "W" words or I may be in-violation.

I should have followed-up with "IS he vilifyng, etc."

I agree — I abhor assumtions, as well.

.
Maybe I'm living-out of my own experience?

After a year on COBRA — I'm now on HIPPA follow-on which forces companies to accept pre-existing.

$ 379 per month with BC/BS — followed by 2 operations in 4 months and tons of Aftercare.

My last $60K operation alone, cost me $2K.
.
.
When employers pay the 8% penalty, because it is cheaper than mandatory obligation to its peeps — those will roll into the wonderful Universal System and questionable treatment.
.
.
With 35M citizens going to bed, hunger — and 13M being children —

I think that TRUMPS this whole Health Care obseesion of Obama's.

When will he vilify the Gov't for "acceptable losses?"

If you switch health insurance companies at work (say from a CIGNA group plan to another plan – lets say Blue Shield), what will happen the the out of pocket medical expenses you have incurred over that year? Are you just out of luck because you are now covered by a different group?

Absolutely NOT ! Another LIE ! Want to know who started this bit of misinformation? The Lewin Group, a consulting firm,,OWNED BY UNITED HEALTH CARE GROUP !! They stated an estimated 119 million people would switch to a public plan !! But the plan excludes those with employers plans,,so only 39million would choose the public plan. And those only if the health care costs privately would exceed 11percent of their income..AND, if cost became a factor, subsidies would be available to keep people to have health ins.. Wow,,doesn't that sound terrible ?? More later !!
Anyone really interested in what the 'facts' and the 'lies are can get a copy of Grampa's Sept. AARP Bulletin,,and verify whats happening..So far, this three page description lists the truth of whats taking place.. THEY the BIGGEST SENIOR endorser,,HAVE READ the BILL,,and Have NO axe to grind with this issue..If you notice, they name United Health Care as a distortor! Check it out !!
Golfer,,not if your new job HAS health care !! YOU read the plan. The govt plan is NOT to elilminate private health care, but to see that you have it! If your new job offers health care you get that..If there is NO health care available,,your employer has to pay 8 percent to the govt. and you pick up the rest of the premium..If your part is over eleven percent of your wage,,subsides are available.. Isn't that better than NO HEALTH CARE ?? And if we the people have to pay an extra usage tax or income tax or whatever tax..The right wanting to pay NO tax is why America is where we are today.. Look out,,your neighborhood bridge may fall down next week !! BUT,, you havent had to pay new taxes!!
WATER SK To TRY and inform Brain Dead 'SHEEPLE' who blindly follow the right Republicans who get their marching orders from the right conservative talk show MISFITS !! I try not to influence but to educate..After that, its your own stupidity or intelligence which guides your decisions !!

My wife and I are going to try and have a baby over the next year or so. We are covered under separate health insurance plans by our respective employers (she has an HMO, I have a PPO-HSA). There is a local hospital and OB-GYN medical group that is considered to be amongst the best in our area; although her insurance does not include the hospital and medical group in their network, mine does. Can the medical bills for the pre-natal care and delivery be covered under my insurance (considering that it as much my child as it is hers) even though she has her own health insurance that would cover the expenses from a different provider?

As a Bipolar person who has been successfully medicated with lithium for several years and otherwise takes great care of himself it drives me "crazy" that in most states Bipolar disorder is an automatic declination with health insurance companies (for private policies). It is not viewed as a pre-existing insurable condition like many other physical problems (and yes Bipolar disorder is of a physical basis). What bothers me even more is that people seem to be completely unaware that this discrimination goes on with our health insurance companies. I feel that there is no voice out there for the millions of people affected by mental health disorder health insurance discrimination. Does anyone know of any groups I can get involved with to spread awareness of this issue (aside from the usual writing congress reps regarding mental health parity legislation)???? Thanks!
